Category talk:Documentation
From Qmail-LDAP Wiki
2005-06-24,Bnegrao: Hi Guys, I'm trying to add documents to this page (a FAQ) but I'm feeling difficulty to understand the current organization of this Documentation page.
I think a better starting point would be if, instead of grouping documents in a totally new manner, we created a documentation website that resembles what already exists for qmail, in http://www.qmail.org. Everybody is already used to that site. An analogous disposition here would make the browsing experience much more natural for the new readers.
My ideas to a new organization are:
- this initial documentation page could be analogous to what we have in http://www.qmail.org/top.html#userdoc.
- next big step, is to create a qmail-ldap manpages, analogous the every document that is in http://www.qmail.org/man/index.html. These man pages would be created under the URL Documentation/Man_Pages.
- We could add all the info is already posted here to the appropriate man pages we go creating.
- The URL for this page is Category:Documentation, which is odd. Why don't we move this page to a URL, simply, www.qmail-ldap.org/Documentation ?
Omar, you created this document, what do you think of these ideas?

I dont like the qmail.org site, IMO it is very vague and disperse. I think we can make something better. I think in documentation there should be simple and direct categories, like for example: Man pages, Guides, HOWTO, FAQ, User provided docs, etc. And then expand from that.
About the URL format I dont see any problem in using longer links, 99% of the people get to its destination browsing or searching, not typing directly things like http://.../Documentation/man/smtp. It'd be nice, but I dont think it be a priority. See wikipedia.org, hundreds of thousands of articles are found easily just with organization, categories and search engine.
Work on the manpage, convince Claudio about your ideas and if he approves lets include it
Omar
